Let your coleus have its moment this year—but don’ Let your coleus have its moment this year—but don’t let it flower! 🌿

As those flower spikes start to appear, your coleus shifts its energy into producing blooms instead of growing those big, colourful leaves we all love.

I like my coleus full, bold, and dramatic, so I snip off the flower buds as soon as I see them. It only takes a few seconds and makes a big difference!

If you’re growing coleus this season and want the biggest, most vibrant foliage possible, make pruning those flowers part of your routine. ✂️💚

Do you leave the flowers or prune them off? Let me know in the comments!

✨ Fertilizer.

Whether you’re using a slow-release fertilizer like Shake ‘N Feed or giving your plants a quick boost with a water-soluble plant food, feeding them regularly is one of the best things you can do for bigger blooms, fuller plants, and colour that lasts all season.

Healthy plants don’t happen by chance—they’re fed. 🌿💗

Save this as a reminder the next time you’re watering your planters, and let me know in the comments… are you Team Shake ‘N Feed or Team Water-Soluble?

Cutting back your petunias doesn’t have to be comp Cutting back your petunias doesn’t have to be complicated. I cut back about half way up, but you can do 1/3 to 1/2 of the way depending on how bad the branches are.

Make sure to support the regrowth with lots of water to keep the soil moist and add some fertilizer!
Don’t be afraid to give your petunias a haircut! ✂ Don’t be afraid to give your petunias a haircut! ✂️🌸

If your petunias are starting to look long, leggy, or have fewer blooms, now is the perfect time to chop them back.

Here’s why it works:
🌿 Encourages fuller, bushier growth
🌸 Triggers a fresh flush of blooms
☀️ Helps your planter look full and healthy through the rest of the summer
✂️ Removes spent flowers and tired stems so the plant can put its energy into new growth

It might look a little bare right away, but trust the process! Pair your trim with a good watering and a dose of fertilizer, and you’ll be rewarded with even more flowers.

Have you trimmed your petunias yet this summer? Let me know in the comments! 🌺

July is when your planters really need a little ex July is when your planters really need a little extra attention! 🌿☀️

Here are my 3 must-do planter tasks this month:

✂️ Chop your petunias – Don’t be afraid to give them a trim! Cutting them back encourages fresh growth and a whole new flush of blooms.

🌱 Fertilize weekly – Summer heat means your plants are working hard. A weekly feeding helps keep them healthy, vibrant, and blooming all season long.

🐞 Check for pesky bugs – Earwigs and other insects can quickly damage flowers and foliage, so take a few minutes to inspect your planters and catch any problems early.

A few minutes of maintenance each week can make all the difference between tired-looking planters and ones that are overflowing with blooms! 🌸

Which of these have you been keeping up with? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Come with me to refresh this garden space with Ver Come with me to refresh this garden space with Veradek! 🌿✨

If you’re working with a smaller yard but still want a big impact, planters are one of my favourite ways to add structure and switch up your space season after season.

For this design, we used two Veradek planters as the focal point, flanked them with cedars, and finished the space with a row of yews to create a clean, modern foundation.

Then came the fun part—adding seasonal colour! We kept the look contemporary with bold Bird of Paradise, accented by rich burgundy foliage and soft pink blooms for the perfect pop.

The best part? When the seasons change, you can simply swap out the plants for a whole new look without redesigning the space.

Would you try this in your garden? 🌸
